Karpinski Engineering Adds Two Principals to Leadership Team

Nov 27, 2023

The firm’s leadership team is growing with the addition of two staff members. Matthew Nutter, PE and Matthew Priebe have been promoted to Principal.

“When Jim Karpinski started this company 40 years ago, part of the DNA he set in motion was growth,” said Karpinski President James T. Cicero, PE, LEED AP. “A part of growth is seeing our staff grow professionally and into leadership positions. One of the things we take pride in is we’ve always grown from within.”

At Karpinski, principals are owners of the firm. They are responsible for the strategic vision, business development, operations, financial well-being, and general management of the five-office firm. They also remain active on projects, engaging with clients and providing engineering leadership.

Matt Nutter, PE

Matthew Nutter is a leading voice in the electrical department at Karpinski. With extensive knowledge of the market sectors Karpinski works in, he excels in project management and complex electrical infrastructures.

“As a technical protector at Karpinski, I can think of no one I trust more in guiding us into the future than Matt,” said Principal and Director of Operations Brian J. David, PE, LEED AP.

An expert in higher education buildings and spaces, Nutter has worked on countless projects at his alma mater, Cleveland State University, as well as signature projects including the Global Center for Health Innovation, the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland, and the Hilton Cleveland Downtown. He has extensive knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and 3D model coordination.

“Over the last 16 years, I’ve been especially supported by the principals who have helped me to grow and become the engineer I am,” said Nutter. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to take this next step in my career.”

Nutter joined Karpinski in 2007 after receiving a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Cleveland State University. He is a registered Professional Engineer.

Matt Priebe

Electrical engineer Matthew Priebe is one of Karpinski’s experts in K-12 education, having devoted thousands of hours to educational spaces. As Director of Electrical, Priebe has contributed to the growth and development of the electrical department.

“Matt has been able to rely on other dedicated staff to make our engineering tools better and to make our projects more efficient than they’ve ever been,” said David.

His experience at Karpinski has included several K-12 buildings and spaces, including Heights High School, Euclid Middle School & High School and Lorain High School as well as corporate, government and higher education projects. He specializes in low voltage power distribution systems, lighting and lighting controls.

“I’m thankful to the principals for the opportunity and the trust to put me into this position to continue the growth of Karpinski,” said Priebe.

Priebe joined Karpinski in 2006, after earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Cleveland State University in 2005. He has served as Director of Electrical since 2020.
