Karpinski Engineering has named Heather Todd, Design IALD, Senior Technical Manager, as its Director of Lighting Technologies. This newly created role reflects both her passion and the firm’s commitment to innovation in lighting and building technologies.

“Heather has been our lighting subject matter for years,” said Principal Brian David, PE, LEED AP. “Her leadership will continue to expand our lighting services and deliver innovative, high-quality results for clients.”

Heather’s journey with Karpinski began more than two decades ago. She first joined the firm as an electrical intern in 2000 while attending Penn State University. Over the year, she has worked on a wide range of projects, from hospitals and cancer centers to museums and office buildings, each one strengthening her belief in the importance of lighting and controls across different environments.

Our industry needs people who track the latest trends and translate them into solutions that work for both clients and communities.” - Heather Todd, IALD

As Director of Lighting Technologies, Heather will continue to guide lighting design and control standards across the firm, mentor staff through internal education sessions, and provide direct support on project-specific design challenges.

With her combination of technical knowledge and hands-on project experience, Heather helps bring lighting designs to life that are innovative, practical, and code-compliant. For clients, this translates into spaces that are functional, energy-efficient, and engaging.

Heather is also focused on emerging lighting and smart building technologies, aiming to enhance how environments are experienced. “Lighting is more than illumination—it’s an opportunity to create dynamic, engaging spaces tailored to the purpose of each project,” she explained.

With Heather’s leadership, Karpinski Engineering continues to advance its ability to deliver technically sound, innovative lighting solutions that positively impact both people and places.
