Karpinski Engineering is pleased to announce the promotion of four team members to the role of Associate. These individuals have demonstrated exceptional leadership, initiative, and dedication to the firm’s mission of “going beyond” for our clients, our colleagues, and our communities.

Jessica Hanes, MBA | Associate & Director of Human Resources

Jessica Hanes, MBA

Jessica Hanes has been a driving force behind Karpinski Engineering’s operational and cultural growth since

joining the firm in 2014. Originally hired as a Senior Accountant, she has steadily expanded her role, earning an MBA and a Human Resources certification while assuming the responsibilities of Director of Human Resources. Jessica has led major initiatives, including payroll system transitions, on-boarding automation, and vendor payment modernization. Her work touches nearly every employee and department, and her open-door approach has made her a trusted resource across the firm.

“Jessica’s influence is felt in every corner of the company,” said Principal Brian David. “She brings clarity, compassion, and a relentless drive to improve how we operate and how we care for our people. Her promotion is a testament to her leadership and her impact.”

Outside of Karpinski, Jessica is a dedicated community leader, actively involved in Rotary and other civic organizations.

Kris Peterson, PE

Kris Peterson joined Karpinski Engineering in 2015 and has steadily built a reputation for delivering thoughtful, high-quality engineering solutions. Over the past ten years, he has contributed to a diverse portfolio of projects, including K-12 schools, higher education campuses, and civic facilities. Kris approaches each challenge with focus and precision, consistently producing work that meets the highest standards. His ability to manage complex technical details while supporting project teams has made him a go-to resource for project managers and design teams.

According to Principal Evan Hammersmith, “Kris is the kind of engineer who makes everyone around him better. His attention to detail, his consistency, and his quiet confidence have elevated our work and strengthened our client relationships. This promotion is well-earned.”

Dan DiCriscio, PE, LEED AP BD+C | Mechanical Associate

Dan DiCriscio has played a pivotal role in the growth and success of Karpinski’s Pittsburgh office since 2016. His contributions span BIM coordination, commissioning, project management, and marketing, reflecting a broad skill set and a willingness to take on new challenges. Dan brings a strong technical foundation to his work and consistently supports his colleagues through mentorship and collaboration. His skill in managing complex systems and navigating challenging contractor environments has gained the trust of both clients and teammates.

Shannon Thorsen | Associate & Director of Business Development

Shannon Thorsen

Shannon Thorsen has a rare blend of architectural expertise, strategic insight, and client-centered thinking, which she applies to her role at Karpinski Engineering. With nearly 15 years of experience as an architectural designer and project manager, she understands the intricacies of project development from both the design and execution sides. Her transition into business development has allowed her to apply that knowledge in new ways, helping clients and teams align around shared goals and long-term success.

As Director of Business Development, Shannon approaches every opportunity with curiosity and intention. She listens closely, asks thoughtful questions, and looks for ways to create mutual wins. Her ability to connect with clients as a peer, combined with her deep understanding of operations, allows her to anticipate needs, foster trust, and create meaningful partnerships that support long-term success.

“Shannon is a connector, a strategist, and a relentless advocate for our people,” said Principal Joe Hofstetter. “Her ability to translate our values into client relationships is unmatched, and her promotion reflects the leadership she brings to every conversation.”

Shannon is a founding board member and President-Elect of the AMFP Northeast Ohio Chapter. Her professional reach spans Ohio, New York, Florida, and Louisiana, and she continues to be a champion for Karpinski’s growth and visibility in key markets.
