Severance Hall Renovation and Expansion
The Cleveland Orchestra | Cleveland, Ohio
An exceptional concert hall for an exceptional orchestra
Severance Hall, home of the world-famous Cleveland Orchestra, underwent a two-year, $36 million renovation and expansion to improve the patron and performer experience.
The Main Orchestra Hall was renovated, with original detailing restored and its legendary acoustics enhanced. The lower-level Reinberger Chamber Orchestra Hall was also renovated. The in-house restaurant was relocated and a new gift shop added. A new 40,000-SF, five-story office addition provides updated support spaces for Orchestra staff and musicians.
MEP project highlights include new electrical service with increased capacity, air conditioning for the performance platform and Grand Foyer, and a doubling of the number of plumbing fixtures throughout the building. Excellent sound quality was imperative, and the team worked with an acoustician to verify that MEP system noise could not be heard in the Main Hall.
