Expanded Recreational Opportunities for Visitors
Karpinski Engineering provided civil engineering and site design services for the development of Kame-Esker Bog Park, a new 215-acre destination park in Portage County, Ohio focused on expanding public access to outdoor recreation while preserving the site’s unique natural environment.
The project included a new 75-stall parking lot with access from Howe Road, an entry plaza with public amenities, accessible multipurpose trails, picnic shelter foundations, and flexible gathering spaces designed to support recreation and community use. Located adjacent to the Cooperrider-Kent Bog State Nature Preserve, the park required careful coordination to balance accessibility, environmental stewardship, and long-term sustainability within a sensitive ecological setting.
Karpinski’s design approach emphasized low-impact development strategies, accessible circulation, and the thoughtful integration of infrastructure into the surrounding landscape. The trail system was strategically planned to utilize existing infrastructure, avoid sensitive areas, and connect visitors to key natural features throughout the park. Kame-Esker Bog Park provides residents and visitors with expanded recreational opportunities, enhanced accessibility, and meaningful access to one of the region’s most unique natural environments.
