Vacant facility becomes an important county asset
Cuyahoga County transformed a vacant bus facility into an important County asset. The new maintenance yard is a centrally located hub for numerous County Public Works departments, with convenient access to the communities they serve.
Core areas of the facility include a fleet repair garage with 12 vehicle bays; workshops; offices; a new training/multipurpose room; new meeting areas; new locker room areas; and vehicle storage. The facility required extensive MEPT/FP renovations to customize each space to the County’s needs, including:
- Emergency power for 100% backup to all power systems, via paralleled 600kW generators
- New LED lighting, providing significantly better lighting levels, a safer working environment, and lower energy consumption
- HVAC upgrades throughout the building
- A new gas detection system that senses carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide, and hydrogen levels in the high-bay areas
- New domestic plumbing systems for the new locker rooms and gear turnout areas
- Updated technology systems throughout, including support for the County’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system
- Electrical systems ready to support solar panels on the roof
