Sep 06, 2023

Karpinski Engineering has promoted Dave Curfman from Senior Mechanical Project Designer to Associate. With guidance from the firm’s principals, Associates work closely with clients to deliver successful projects and contribute to the firm’s strategic growth.

“Dave demonstrates a commitment to our core values in so many ways,” said Jeremy Bowers, PE Principal, Director of Akron-Canton Operations at Karpinski Engineering. “Since starting his career with the firm, Dave has always worked hard, and encouraged others, to achieve successful outcomes for both his clients and his colleagues.”

Dave joined Karpinski Engineering in 2008 as a Mechanical Engineer. He has worked on some of Karpinski’s biggest projects over the course of his career, specializing in designing mechanical systems for healthcare and large-scale commercial projects. Dave has developed expertise in designing HVAC and medical gas systems, as his portfolio showcases his work on some of Karpinski’s biggest projects.

Dave is deeply passionate about crafting functional spaces that seamlessly align with an architect’s vision. He places a premium on engineering design that not only advances aesthetic concepts but also serves the practical needs of a space. Dave is a fervent advocate for innovation, consistently seeking fresh ideas to overcome design challenges and deliver superior solutions. As a skilled and dynamic communicator, Dave’s ability to gain trust from clients from the outset of engagements positions project teams for long-term success.

In 2011, Dave worked alongside Principal Ray Hoon and majorly contributed to delivering Goodyear’s Headquarters in Akron, Ohio. This high-profile project showcased Karpinski’s engineering expertise and established a presence for the firm in the Akron-Canton area. In addition to designing mechanical systems, Dave also helped standardize the firm’s project delivery processes by implementing BIM and supporting its company-wide adoption.

Dave continued to develop his engineering expertise and expand on his mastery of project delivery while supporting the firm’s continued growth. He designed mechanical systems for major healthcare projects at Cleveland Clinic’s Marymount and Fairview hospitals and large-scale commercial projects at Lord Corporation and Cedar Point. Dave continued to support the firm, his colleagues, and the industry by delivering technical training presentations to both internal teams and Karpinski’s clients.

In his 17 years with the firm, Dave has accrued an impressive portfolio of engineering design work, having provided systems designs to projects for University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic, Fisher-Titus Medica Center, Aultman Hospital, MetroHealth, Mercy Medical Center, Lake Hospital, Case Western Reserve University, Kent State University, The Ohio State University, College of Wooster, University of Akron, and Trident Seafood.
