Karpinski Engineering Welcomes “Summer on the Cuyahoga” Intern
Jul 20, 2023
Karpinski Engineering is proud to announce its continued participation in the prestigious “Summer on the Cuyahoga” (SOTC) internship program for the second year. SOTC, now celebrating its 20th anniversary, has been a cornerstone of Northeast Ohio’s summer internship opportunities, providing exceptional experiences for students from select regional colleges and universities in Ohio, the East Coast, and the greater Midwest.
Karpinski Engineering is sponsoring, Cyrine Ben-Ayed, an international rising senior from Smith College located in, Northampton, Massachusetts. Cyrine is studying Engineering Science and Computer Science, and her passion for the industry is evident.
As one of nine students from Smith College participating in SOTC this year, Cyrine holds a special connection to the program. Smith College has been a steadfast partner of SOTC since the start of the program in 2003. Cyrine shares, “It’s a very diverse program, and I appreciate the time I’ve spent here. The way that Eric McGarvey, Executive Director of SOTC, and Tania Kaiser, Assistant Director of SOTC, are always reaching out to us and making us feel at home is great. ”
Having interned as an Electrical engineer, Cyrine has actively engaged with Karpinski Engineering’s projects and teams, gaining valuable insights into the firm’s services and markets. Her enthusiasm for hands-on learning has taken her to various project sites, where she relishes the practical experience. “I’ve been on site four times already, and each time has been a fantastic learning opportunity,” Cyrine shares.
Living on the vibrant campus of Case Western Reserve University alongside other SOTC interns, Cyrine has enjoyed a range of exciting events organized through the program, including baseball games, city tours, and kayaking. Additionally, all participants must attend mandatory professional events during the summer, allowing them to expand their networks and meet industry professionals.
After seeing everything that Cleveland has to offer, Cyrine says that she does want to return to Cleveland once she graduates in the spring. Her advice to others considering a SOTC internship is to “put yourself out there, and if you have never been to Cleveland, it is more of a reason to do it. Having the sense of community will make the transition even better!”
