Aug 02, 2023

Karpinski Engineering celebrated its 40th anniversary this past June. The milestone marks another decade of designing environments that make a positive and lasting impact on the community.

In the summer of 1983, two junior partners at a local engineering firm opened their own, now known as Karpinski Engineering, in an office above a Dairy Queen. The last 40 years have been spent creating a culture built on passion, integrity, excellence, and service.

“We were working through the night and the day,” says Jim ‘Karp’ Karpinski, one of the firm’s founders and namesake. “We did anything we had to do to get the work out.”

Karpinski’s humbled roots and strong leadership have elevated the Cleveland-based firm as one of the city’s leading engineering firms, as well as consistently ranking among the top engineering firms in the United States. The firm now boasts an impressive five offices, emphasizing a continued legacy of going above and beyond throughout each region.

Over the years, the passion of Karpinski’s team has been reflected in each project the firm takes on. No matter how big or small the project may be, the team is fully invested in providing a high level of services whether it be mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, technology, building performance and sustainability, or civil engineering.

In providing these services, the team displays a strong sense of integrity, creating a professional environment and long-lasting relationships with a multitude of clients ranging from the Cleveland Clinic and the Cleveland Museum of Art to The Ohio State University.

“One of the things that affects me most on a project is the relationship we’ve built and the trust that comes with it,” says Jeremy Bowers, Principal and Director of Akron-Canton Operations.

The firm’s ability to create excellence comes from the desire to look at every angle of a project. “We make sure to spend the time and attention to make sure that every potential for the future has been thought through so at the end of the day, when you’ve got a final product that’s built, there’s no regrets,” says Mechanical Associate Sarah Terborg.

Karpinski Engineering thrives on providing outstanding service to clients, the community, and each other for the past 40 years, cultivating and maintaining strong relationships and supporting the growth and development of all employees.

The firm has been fortunate enough to work on multiple projects with high profile clients including Case Western Reserve University, UPMC, Cleveland Metroparks, Ohio University, and Carnegie Mellon University.

“As it relates to the 40th anniversary, I just want to say thank you to Jim Karpinski,” says Karpinski President Jim Cicero. “I think what he started was such a great vision.”
