Cogence Drive Award for Ashtabula Regional Medical Center Patient Care Tower

Oct 10, 2024

The Ashtabula Regional Medical Center Patient Care Tower has won the 2024 Cogence Drive Award, Large Project category.

The Drive Awards celebrate the best in project collaboration. They not only highlight the critical role and value that collaboration brings to projects but also demonstrate how the A/E/C community and its contributions are improving project outcomes.

The Ashtabula Regional Medical Center (ARMC) Patient Care Tower is the culmination of years of detailed programming and planning to replace and expand essential hospital departments. Following an extensive analysis to support community needs, ARMC reimagined the Emergency, Surgery, ICU, and Patient Care departments. As an affiliate of the Cleveland Clinic, ARMC ensured that the clinical spaces were designed to meet the highest size, quality, and arrangement standards for optimal care delivery. Addressing the hospital’s aging infrastructure and future needs was also a critical focus.

At the ARMC Patient Care Tower, collaboration was not just an objective but necessary due to the project’s complexity and the industry’s dynamic environment. From the onset, the team adopted a flat organizational structure, empowering all team members. Regular teaming events and feedback surveys were integral to the process, allowing the project team to measure performance and identify areas for improvement.

The project is a testament to collaboration and innovative problem-solving. By leveraging each team member’s strengths, managing the budget and supply chain proactively, and integrating design-assist contractors, the project team navigated numerous challenges and delivered on time. This project exemplifies how a committed collaborative effort can produce a high-quality, financially responsible facility meeting all stakeholders’ needs.
