More Than Housing: Creating a Student Life Destination at CWRU
To meet growing enrollment and replace aging housing, Case Western Reserve University invested $92 million in the new South Residential Village—two modern dormitories that add 600 beds and expand student life on the south campus. The buildings connect directly to Fribley Commons and feature amenities like study spaces, active lounges, rehearsal rooms, and a multi-purpose glass room. Outdoors, students enjoy a wellness garden, hammock area, and play yard in the shared courtyard.
Designed for LEED Silver certification, the project incorporates high-efficiency mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology systems. A central plant provides heating and cooling with features like heat recovery and water-cooled chillers. Underground fiber infrastructure supports advanced connectivity, while integrated safety systems provide video surveillance and emergency response.
The South Residential Village is more than student housing—it’s a community hub that brings together comfort, connection, and sustainability.
