Diverse specialty care under one roof

Karpinski Engineering provided engineering design services for Loyola Medicine’s 69,000-SF outpatient center. The facility houses a diversity of specialty care offerings. Spaces include:

  • Radiology department
  • Urgent care with laboratory space
  • Cardiac rehabilitation center, with a therapy pool and walking track
  • Pain management center
  • Ear, nose, and throat department, with an audio booth
  • Ophthalmology and Lasik services
  • Neurology and neurosurgery consultation suites
  • Adult developmental learning department
  • Physical and occupational therapy spaces, with a fully functioning residential kitchen; laundry and bed/bath suite
  • Sleep labs
  • Orthopedic surgery consultation suite for pre/post surgery consultations, casting, X-rays, and hand therapy
  • Commercial preparation kitchen for food service

The facility is a tenant space, and Karpinski worked closely with the core/shell engineers so that utilities were adequate for loads needed. The building systems included direct-expansion cooling and electric re-heat at terminal boxes, limited oxygen and medical vacuum, and limited nurse call. Total construction cost was $6.5 million.
