We’re Taking Our Harvest for Hunger Campaign Online!

Apr 06, 2020

It’s the beginning of April, and normally our Cleveland and Columbus offices are in the midst of their annual Harvest for Hunger campaigns. With work-from-home in full swing, though, all our in-office events have been suspended.

And yet the need is even greater now than it was just a couple months ago. The COVID-19 pandemic is making a dramatic impact on many people’s livelihoods. Here are a few stats from the Greater Cleveland Food Bank:

  • At a recent drive-through distribution day, approximately one-third of their clients were new.
  • In one week, they distributed 350,000 more pounds of food than they did the same week last year.
  • On a recent weekday, their help center received 1,332 calls. Their average is 100 per day.

Though we’re under stay at home orders, we can still help. Over the next two weeks, we’ll be spotlighting five different hunger relief agencies, one in each of the regions where our offices are located. We’ll share links to their donation pages below, as well as on our social media feeds.

If you’re looking for a way to help during the COVID-19 outbreak, consider making a donation to one of these organizations. They’re working hard to keep food on people’s tables. Every $1 goes a long way to feeding hungry people and helping them feel more secure during a time of uncertainty.

Week 5

The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank sources and distributes food within an 11-county service area in southwest Pennsylvania. Every $1 donated provides food for five nutritious meals.

Week 4

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank distributes food and other essential items to agencies across eight counties in Northeast Ohio. Every $1 donated can provide four meals to the hungry in the community. According to the CEO of the Foodbank, they had more than three times the typical number of families at a recent food distribution (Source.)

The Mid-Ohio Food Collective (previously the Mid-Ohio Foodbank) serves 20 counties in central and eastern Ohio. In partnership with 680 member agencies, they provide more than 140,000 meals each day. Every $1 you donate provides $10 worth of groceries to hungry families and individuals.

In recent weeks, the Mid-Ohio Food Collective has seen a 14% increase in the amount of food they’ve distributed.
