Senior Commissioning Project Manager Brian Tenney has been promoted to Director of Commissioning. Tenney, who joined Karpinski in 2021, was hired in anticipation of eventually leading the department. As Director of Commissioning, he will lead the commissioning team, support clients’ projects, and enhance the department’s service offerings. One of his key responsibilities will be to continue integrating Karpinski’s commissioning, building performance, and sustainability services.
“Brian has a deep passion for what he does,” said Principal Joe Hofstetter, PE, CEM, LEED AP. “He cares not only about the end product, but about learning every day, solving problems, and sharing his knowledge with others.”
An engineer by education, Tenney spent over two decades in the field of building automation and systems operations. He has worked with clients in the healthcare, education, industrial, and corporate sectors. During that time, he developed a reputation for helping clients get their buildings to perform effectively and efficiently.
“My goal is to raise the bar for the industry, helping owners understand how to invest in their buildings for better outcomes.”

With his combination of technical knowledge and hands-on field experience, Tenney brings a deep understanding of how engineering designs translate into installation and operation. For clients, that translates into a positive functional impact for their facilities.
Tenney also has an eye for innovation and improvement. Today, his attention is on the smart buildings trend, as he looks at how to deliver integrated building systems that actually work for clients. He has given presentations and authored articles on the topic.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity,” Tenney said. “My goal is to raise the bar for the industry, helping owners understand how to invest in their buildings for better outcomes.”
