Construction Coordinator Brian O’Connor, QCxP, Retires
Dec 14, 2021
Construction Coordinator Brian O’Connor, QCxP, is retiring at the end of this year. O’Connor spearheaded construction administration (CA) services for Karpinski’s Jamestown, New York, office.
During his 13 years at the firm, O’Connor’s role evolved to include not only construction coordination, but project coordination, project management, and commissioning. He supported clients in a variety of sectors, including healthcare, hospitality, and finance.
Director of New York Operations Mark Harrington, PE, described O’Connor as “unflappable” and willing “to take on whatever was asked of him.” He praised O’Connor’s tenacious approach to projects.
“Brian will learn a lot about whatever project he’s working on,” said Harrington. “He knows something about everything, and if he doesn’t, he finds it out for you.”
O’Connor said he appreciated the variety of projects that he has worked on at Karpinski. He talked about performing CA for 15 hotel projects, all for the same brand, but with differences that made them distinct. He mentioned the surprising and fascinating information he learned about growing medical marijuana while performing CA for a grow facility. He described the sense of satisfaction he experienced being the owner’s rep for a generator upgrade at a hospital where he used to work.
In retirement, O’Connor is looking forward to more time for kayaking in the summer, RV travels with his wife, and spending time with his grandchildren.
