Project Description
Karpinski Engineering was proud to serve as the MEPT engineer for the East Hall completed in 2008 for Hiram College. East Hall is a new 40,000 SF, co-ed residence with 70 rooms and 102 beds. Student living is suite-style within six- and eight- person apartments with single and double occupancy bedrooms; two sink areas with 4 sinks total; two separate toilet rooms and separate shower rooms per suite. Each suite has its own HVAC unit as well as a living space, storage and kitchenette. Each resident room has power, internet/data, phone and cable. The main living area of the suites has power, internet, and cable.
 
The building’s common space includes a lounge area with fireplace and television. Each floor also has a multi-purpose space. The Burton D. Morgan Entrepreneurship Center, located on the first floor of the facility, houses a 50-seat lecture hall, an incubator classroom, offices for the entrepreneurship center director and assistant director, meeting spaces, and a 2-bedroom Entrepreneur-in-Residence suite. The Center occupies 7,105 SF on the first floor of the new residence hall.
 
The 3-story Design/Build project is the first of two residence hall structures that the college has planned. The new facility also features a geothermal HVAC system and was awarded LEED Gold Certification. Total project cost was $7,000,000.
