Marymount Opens New Doors in March 2012
Karpinski Engineering is a proud member of the design team responsible for the Surgery Center addition and hospital renovation at the Cleveland Clinic’s Marymount Hospital. On March 9, Cleveland Clinic’s Marymount Hospital opens a new 45,000-SF addition to its Surgery Center, enhancing its 26-acre campus in Garfield Heights. An additional 30,000-SF renovation of existing clinical space is scheduled to open during the first quarter of 2013. Total project cost for both phases is $45 million, with Karpinski Engineering providing MEP/T design.
The Clinic implemented concepts that aligned designers, consultants and the construction team with the Owners’ mission – thereby reducing costs, adhering to schedules, producing better project outcomes and reducing risks along the way. Five contractors were hired during the design phase alone to assist with constructability, scheduling, cost estimating and design reviews. Early and consistent integration among the entire project team translated into a considerable reduction in the number of RFIs as well as other unexpected conditions during construction. The result was a project which saw all parties working toward common goals – with collaboration and accountability at the heart of each action and decision. Marymount Hospital is a full-service, 322-bed acute care community hospital serving southern and southeastern Cuyahoga County and neighboring communities. Augmenting its full spectrum of hospital services, the main campus includes a medical office building, behavioral health center, and a new critical care tower that features a larger emergency department, new imaging services and an enhanced intensive care unit. The campus is also home to The Village at Marymount, a thriving community for independent seniors, as well as Trinity High School and Villa St. Joseph, a 114-suite nursing and memory care center. Additionally, Marymount serves as the base hospital for the paramedic programs of seven local communities.
