Cleveland Clinic Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Institute Receives LEED Gold from USGBC

Completed and opened in January 2012, Cleveland Clinic’s Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Institute recently received LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Perspectus Architecture and Karpinski Engineering provided A/E design for this 136,000-SF, $72-million research lab, which supports testing needs for microbiology, special chemistry, immunopathology and molecular pathology. A 40% energy savings over ASHRAE 90.1-2007 was crucial to accomplishing LEED Gold certification, and energy-efficient design included: water efficient irrigation systems; a green roof; daylighting and LED lighting; exhaust air-energy recovery; and sunshades to reduce solar heat gain.
