Karpinski Engineering Provides “Key” Role During Office Emergency

On August 27, 2,500 KeyBank employees were evacuated from the 58-floor Key Tower on Cleveland’s Public Square after an electrical explosion.  An electrical fire occurred in the basement vault around 2 p.m., knocking out power to the first four floors and causing smoke to infiltrate the first two floors of the building.

Once notified of the incident, Karpinski Engineering President James T. Cicero and Electrical Project Engineer Shawn Callahan were immediately on site, providing engineering assistance to restore power to the facility.  The fire was quickly extinguished by the fire suppression system, electricity to the building was restored prior to 9 a.m. the next morning, and no injuries occurred.
